A year or so ago, Dino and I made work for Vivid that looked at how movement could be used for storytelling and understanding someone else's previous histories and cultural contexts. I had a very similar discussion recently with Ben and his partner Katy about the importance of passing down regional dances that create community storytelling (of sorts) we were mainly discussing Northern Soul and similar movements located in an isolated time and place.

As a micro project I'd like to cultivate a series of short videos of dances that were embedded into our upbringing. Dances that entire towns knew the choreo for (and not just an iconic single section). Dances we can share and pass on to others.

In Tasmania, we had 3 main dances that virtually everyone knew every step to: The Nutbush, The Bus Stop and The Time Warp. Hopefully, I'll get videos for all three (*digs out high school year book!)

Project details:

The videos can be in any format you like, high qual/ low qual. Audio recorded in the background, or overlayed. However you feel is best to show that dance.

I'll add them as they come in, but would be great to have most up by the end of May.
